Swatch Print Ad

Swatch’s Turn Back Time is a line up of watches celebrating the company’s most iconic designs from the 80’s.
Before I worked in an office, I was a salesman at Swatch for 3 years. I grew a fondness for retro-styled analog watches while working there and enjoyed being surrounded by the layouts and designs of their brocheres and ads. I always thought designing for the company would have been a great experience to exercise the creative mind.
My take on the print ad campaign was to highlight the watches themselves while giving it a retro feel with playful colours and using an image of an actual Swatch ad from the 80’s as the backdrop.
Working for Legend 3D left me with a ton of unique set of skills, but very few that could be transferred to Graphic Design.
I decided to give After Effects a try since things like animation, tracking, and motion masking are all skills that are interchangeable. To my surprise, After Effects had a mini version of Mocha built in as a plug-in. It was a pretty easy decision for me to use it to my advantage to track and mask assets in the live action shots.
The design goal was to appeal to the hip, young crowd with footage of summer activities and fun, animating graphics.
